Everal Race Management was founded by Greg and Jenni Everal in 2006, stationed out of Detroit Downriver area, servicing races all over Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky. They are runners and very passionate for the sport which is how they stumbled into this timing gig – although they miss torturing themselves with long, sweaty, painful miles and reaching their goals of running a marathon in all fifty states, they feel they have the best job ever because every weekend they are at the races!

Can you tell us a little bit about all of your events?

Our events start as small as 200 participants and as big as 12,000 participants. Most of our events we manage from online and all the way to delivering race results. We are associated with Cross Country, the local 5K/10K Festival Runs/Charity Runs, Marathons/Half Marathons, and Relays.

How did you personally get started in the industry?

We worked as race directors and volunteered at many races for many years, one day we decided to give this timing thing a go, we started following Gault Race Management around to races they were timing, seeing that they were so successful we figured they would be the best people to learn from and 10 years later we now time over 120 of our own events.

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?

Being around all the positive energy as people cross the finish line and knowing that we are generating the results that they are so anxious to view.

What’s your least favorite thing about what you do?

Hmmm, a toss- up between all the prep work or the super early 3AM – 4AM wake up calls!

How long have you been working with ChronoTrack?

We have been with ChronoTrack since its conception!

What are 3 things you like best about ChronoTrack?

The support is stellar, the technology is amazing and keeps getting better, the fact that you can utilize one or all of the options that the program offers!

What is one trick you’ve learned in the ChronoTrack system that has helped you save time/do something better?

If you can get the organization to use ChronoTrack from the very beginning (online) this will simplify the whole process of tracking the participants, the dynamic packet pick up is wonderful, no labels needed, no alpha reports, no data entry all this results in fewer mistakes/less human errors.

What is the most practical, hands-on advice you would give a newbie?

Take your time and be patient, doing the job correctly and making people happy will score you more jobs.

What’s your favorite race and why?

So many to choose from, we love the races that keep it simple, we would probably go with Sole to Soul, it is a 5K in the middle of summer on a week night with a huge kids run, very family oriented. Music is playing, kids are dancing and hotdogs are grilling, it’s nice to see everyone come together and have such a great time at a simple 5K race.

What are your goals for 2015 and onward?

To get better at what we do, anything can go wrong at anytime so it is important to learn from your mistakes in order to better yourself.
